Overview

When the largest stadium in Latin America set out to deliver a world-class fan experience across every concourse, suite, and hospitality space, the AV distribution system powering it needed to operate at an unprecedented scale. Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, the legendary venue known as “El Coloso de Santa Úrsula,” now runs the world’s largest 10G SDVoE AV-over-IP single network powered by AVPro Edge MXNet.

The deployment spans more than 500 video displays and over 20 video walls. It delivers live match action, instant replays, wayfinding, and branded content to every corner of the stadium. AVD distributes the complete AVPro Edge MXNet range across Australia and New Zealand, giving integrators access to the same proven platform for stadium, entertainment, corporate, and large venue AV projects.

The Challenge: AV Distribution at Stadium Scale

Estadio Banorte opened in 1966 and sits 2,200 metres above sea level. Bringing this iconic venue into the modern era of fan engagement meant solving a problem of immense scale.

  • 500+ displays across a massive footprint. Concourses, private suites, hospitality zones, food and beverage areas, and public spaces throughout the stadium each required independently routed video content with consistent quality on every screen.
  • 20+ video walls for high-impact moments. Large-format video wall installations throughout the venue demanded pixel-perfect synchronisation and seamless content delivery for live match broadcasts and replays.
  • Live content from multiple sources. Match feeds, instant replays, wayfinding graphics, sponsor content, and operational messaging all needed flexible routing to any combination of displays at any time.
  • Unified control across the entire venue. Stadium operations teams needed a single management platform to control content across every display and video wall, with the ability to make rapid changes during live events.
  • High-availability reliability. Downtime during a live match in front of tens of thousands of fans is not an option. The system required redundancy and failover capabilities at every level.

The project brought together regional distributor Duoson AV, brand representative Polaris Controls, and systems integrator POP Media Technology, all coordinating with AVPro Edge to engineer a deployment of this magnitude.

The Solution: AVPro Edge MXNet 10G SDVoE Ecosystem

AVPro Edge’s MXNet 10G platform was selected to power the entire stadium AV network. The 10G SDVoE (Software Defined Video over Ethernet) architecture delivers uncompressed 4K video, audio, and control over standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet. It enables true enterprise-scale AV distribution without the limitations of traditional matrix switching infrastructure.

How It Works

Transceivers at each display and source operate as either encoder or decoder, selected by a simple switch on the chassis. Each unit supports both copper and fibre transmission, giving the integration team flexibility to match the cabling requirements of each location within the stadium.

The 100G core switches form the network backbone, handling the bandwidth demands of hundreds of simultaneous 4K video streams. Access switches provide PoE-powered 10G connectivity to each transceiver endpoint throughout the venue.

Dual CBOX-HA control systems running AVPro’s Mentor software platform provide high-availability management. If one control unit fails, the second takes over instantly, ensuring uninterrupted operation during live events. The Mentor interface gives stadium operations staff a single dashboard to route any source to any display, configure video wall layouts, and manage content zones.

Key Outcomes and Results

  • World’s largest 10G SDVoE single network. Estadio Banorte now operates the largest single-network 10G SDVoE AV-over-IP deployment in the world, setting a new benchmark for stadium AV infrastructure.
  • 500+ displays and 20+ video walls on one unified network. Every screen in the stadium communicates on a single network protocol, enabling content routing to any display anywhere in the facility on demand.
  • Seamless live event delivery. Fans experience live match action, instant replays, wayfinding, and branded content across every concourse, suite, and hospitality space.
  • High-availability operation. Dual CBOX-HA control systems provide redundancy and instant failover, ensuring zero-downtime performance during match days.
  • Engineering-led deployment. Detailed pre-deployment engineering and design preparation ensured a seamless on-site installation at this complex, large-scale venue.

As Kevin Wang, VP of Product Development at AVPro, noted: “This level of preparation ensured a seamless on-site installation once deployment began, demonstrating significant value of combining detailed engineering and design preparation.”

Why MXNet 10G for Stadium and Large Venue AV

  • Enterprise scalability. SDVoE architecture supports hundreds or thousands of endpoints on a single network, with no matrix size limitations
  • Uncompressed 4K quality. 10G bandwidth delivers visually lossless 4K content, critical for large-format video walls and high-impact displays
  • Function-selectable transceivers. A single hardware SKU operates as either encoder or decoder, simplifying inventory and reducing costs
  • High-availability management. Dual control box configuration with automatic failover for mission-critical venues
  • Standard network infrastructure. Leverages 10G Ethernet, eliminating proprietary cabling and enabling IT teams to manage AV alongside existing network operations
  • Copper and fibre flexibility. Each transceiver supports both transmission types, adapting to varying distance and infrastructure requirements across large venues
